THE father of a Barnsley soldier who was killed while serving in Afghanistan has organised a charity bike ride to raise money for Help for Heroes.
Private Matthew Thornton, from Darton, was killed in November 2011 by an improvised explosive device. He was 28.
His dad Mick has helped to raise money for Help for Heroes ever since, and has now organised the Barnsley Boundary Heroes Ride, which will take place on August 28.
The 80 mile sportive will take riders around the Barnsley boundary.
Entries are open now for the ride, held in association with cycling group the Barnsley Road Club.
