THE COUNCIL has started repairing damage to the Barnsley Pals Centenary Square which caused by skateboards.
Photographer Shaun Colborn noticed the damage when he was making his preparations for the Battle of the Somme Centenary commemorations, due to be held on July 1 - the 100th anniversary of the First World War’s bloodiest battle.
There had been concerns that the steps would not be repaired in time for the ceremony, but the council have allayed those fears by confirming repairs have begun.
A spokesperson said: "Our Highway teams started work yesterday to repair the damage to the steps and paving in Barnsley Pals Centenary Square.
"Sections will be closed off at times whilst works are on going. We apologise for any inconvenience."
