HALF the number of Christmas lights that were up last year have been put up on Wombwell High Street due to funding cuts.

The lights are owned by the High Street Committee and erected for a fee by the council but, because the committee's grant has been halved from £2,000 to £4,000, cuts have had to be made.

The grant is made from the Community Support Fund, shared out by local councillors.

The money is instead going towards refurbishing the High Street public toilets - including installing baby changing facilities in the women's toilet - and replacing vandalised children's rides in Wombwell Park.
