BRIAN BLESSED has been awarded with an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.
The actor, who grew up in Goldthorpe, has been awarded for services to the arts and charity.
"I am absolutely delighted," he said.
"It is marvellous that the son of a Yorkshire coal miner should be given such an honour.
"A huge thank you to all of the people that nominated me."
