AN open top bus parade will take place in the town centre tomorrow after Barnsley secured promotion at Wembley.

The parade will make its way from Oakwell Stadium at 4.15pm tomorrow evening (Monday, May 30) to Barnsley Town Hall via Grove Street, Pontefract Road, Kendray Street, Eldon Street, Church Street and Sadler Gate.

Fans are invited to join in with the celebrations lining the streets of the bus route before heading to the town hall for the balcony appearance at approximately 5pm to 5.30pm.

Fans are encouraged to help paint the town red by bringing flags and wearing their team colours.

Reds Caretaker Head Coach Paul Heckingbottom, said: “What an incredible season it has been for everyone associated with our Football Club. It was another proud and historic moment for the town at Wembley, and now we can’t wait to get back to Barnsley and celebrate with the fans at the heart of the town centre.

“The atmosphere at Wembley was phenomenal – you got behind us throughout the game and that support was crucial in getting the win and securing promotion back to the Championship!“On behalf of all the players and staff, thank you for your fantastic support throughout the season and we look forward to seeing you at the town hall on Monday for what promises to be a big promotion party!”

Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Linda Burgess, said: “We’re really proud to be able to welcome our home team onto the town hall balcony for the second time this season. Their promotion to the Championship is wonderful finale to a very successful season for the Tykes. The Reds are now back where they belong and we wish them continued success in the next season.”
