COUNCIL enforcement officers are working to move on a gypsy camp that has set up in Wombwell Park.

Social media was rife with reports of the camp yesterday (Wednesday, May 18), with Wombwell residents voicing concerns over the alleged mess travellers were leaving, including piles of rubbish and smashed glass.

Concerns were also raised about their behaviour.

Coun Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “The council is aware of reports of gypsies and travellers at Wombwell Park.

"Enforcement officers have been dispatched to verify the current situation and assess the impact on the surrounding community with a view to following the necessary legal procedures."
