BARNSLEY took a step closer to Wembley on Saturday after thrashing Walsall 3-0 at Oakwell.

A Demetriou own goal bang on half time, followed by a Sam Winnall double early in the second half means that Walsall will have to beat the Reds by four clear goals in the second leg on Thursday - or at least 3-0 to take the game to extra time - to stop Barnsley in their quest for League One promotion.

Should Barnsley see out the tie, they will play at Wembley for the second time this season, likely against Milwall, who beat Bradford 3-1 in League One's second play-off semi-final.
