SIR Michael Parkinson will host a new family fun run in Barnsley in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Parky recently agreed to support the regional charity following his own experience with prostate cancer.

On Sunday, June 19 (Father’s Day), families are invited to take part in the charity’s inaugural ‘Parky Run’, which will take place at Cannon Hall Farm, Cawthorne, and will be officially started by Sir Michael.

Starting with a junior 2K dash for children aged 2 upwards and followed by a 5K fun run for adults, the event aims to highlight the importance of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, while raising funds to prevent, treat and help people survive cancer in Yorkshire.

All finishers will receive medals and 5K participants will receive a Parky Run t-shirt.

Sir Michael said: “I am delighted to return to South Yorkshire to support this very worthy cause. This unique event will provide a fantastic opportunity for families to get active, support Yorkshire Cancer Research and help to raise awareness of a disease that affects thousands of people living in the region.”
