TWENTY-FOUR ambulance patients at Barnsley Hospital were left waiting an hour or longer to be checked into the hospital in February.
One ambulance patient was left waiting almost three hours to be handed over to A and E staff.
The figures come via a Freedom of Information request by Holmfirth-based health campaigner Terry Hallworth.
There are fears that the closure of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary could impact Barnsley's already busy A and E, as patients who usually use the Huddersfield hospital could come to Barnsley instead.
Under Right Care Right Time Right Place, Huddersfield Royal Infirmary will be demolished and replaced with a new hospital which will have an urgent care centre, but no emergency care centre.
The nearest hospitals with full emergency care departments are Barnsley, Halifax, Wakefield and Oldham.
