ANOTHER free dog chipping event is coming to Barnsley - giving pet owners the opportunity to join the hundreds who have already attended.

Barnsley Council has teamed up with Dogs Trust and Cookes Pet Supplies on Wakefield Road to offer a free microchipping session for dogs on Wednesday, 11 May from 11am.

It is now a legal requirement for dog owners in England to microchip their animal if it is over eight weeks old under plans intended to cut a rise in strays.

The microchips are coded with owners' details, and owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500.

Due to the popularity of previous events in Barnsley, which hundreds of owners have already attended, people are advised to arrive as close to 11am as possible. The event will close promptly at 3pm and the last time to register a dog is 2.30pm.
