THE Council won't introduce charges for the Barnsley Parkrun despite another council's decision to charge participants.
Barnsley Council has said that it is happy to keep its current arrangements with the organisers of the Barnsley Parkrun at Locke Park.
There had been concerns Stoke Gifford Parish Council's decision to charge parkrunner's a fee for the use of Little Stoke Park near Bristol would lead to other council’s around the country following suit.
However, a Barnsley Council spokesperson said: "We are happy to say that we have no intention of charging for the the Locke Park Park Run.
"We have upwards of 100 adults taking part on Saturdays and the same numbers of junior runners on Sunday morning.
"We feel that the benefit to the public in helping to promote healthy activities across all ages and getting people out into the fresh air is a priority for the borough and we are happy to support this."
