DOG OWNERS are being reminded that from today their pets will have to be microchipped under plans intended to cut a rise in strays.
The microchips are coded with owners' details, and owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500.
Barnsley Council has teamed up with Dogs Trust to offer a free microchipping session for dogs on Wednesday, 13 April at Locke Park Cafe, Barnsley, from 11am.
Dogs will be treated on a first come first served basis with the last dog seen at 3pm.
The dogs will also be given a basic health check of ears, eyes, teeth, coat condition and general fitness.
