BARNSLEY COLLEGE'S Sports Academy footballers are celebrating after winning the South Yorkshire Schools Under-18 Cup.
Barnsley College claimed the trophy thanks to a convincing 4-0 victory against Maltby Academy in the final, which was held at Balby Carr Academy in Doncaster.
First half goals from Owen Wildblood and Connor Johnson put Barnsley College in the driving seat, and they wrapped up the win after the break with Jack Butterley scoring twice to seal their success.
The win was particularly notable as the College’s semi-final triumph over Balby Carr Academy came only one day before the final, giving the players just hours to recover.
Dave Penney, Performance and Athlete Development Co-ordinator in the college’s Sports Academy, said:
“The team has done extremely well to win this trophy and achieved great results in difficult circumstances.
"We showed resilience and strength during the final as we were missing some key players but I am proud that the squad did not fold under the strain of playing two crucial matches in such quick succession.”
