A NUMBER of bus shelters have been smashed in Barnsley, which will cost the taxpayer to repair.

As part of a series of targeted attacks, which also included house and car windows, bus shelters across town, from Ardsley to Redbrook and other areas, have been smashed.

The South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is warning that the bus shelters will cost the taxpayer to fix.

A SYPTE spokesperson said: “We are aware of damage to a number of bus shelters in the Ardsely Hill area, and we are currently in the process of assessing repair requirements.

“Mindless vandalism to transport infrastructure affects customers’ journeys and costs tax-payers’ money to fix. Incidents of this nature will not be tolerated and these damages have been reported to South Yorkshire Police."
