A CAT has been severely injured after being shot with a 'hunting' pellet.

Police are appealing for the public's help after the cat was shot in Wath.

Sometime between 6-7pm on Saturday 12 March, the cat, Sassie, a six-year-old female tabby, was let out of its home in New Hill Road in the Wath area.

When she returned a short time later, its owners were left distraught after discovering that the cat was injured and bleeding from its side.

They immediately rushed the cat to the vets where it underwent surgery to remove a pellet which had pierced its intestine and lodged itself inside.
