BARNSLEY HOSPITAL has installed new state of the art equipment.
A new laser for the treatment of urinary stones was installed at the hospital in February 2016 and the first patients were treated on Tuesday 23 February.
The equipment is the first of its kind to be used in Barnsley. It is expected to greatly improve overall treatment.
Previously patients with stone disease required treatment at Sheffield.
Stephen Mitchell, Consultant Urological Surgeon and Clinical Lead for the Division of General Surgery and Urology, said: “I am delighted that we are now able to offer the very latest state-of-the-art technology. This means the best available treatment to local people from their local hospital."
