MP Dan Jarvis has called for the government to provide sustainable funding to services that help people quit smoking.

Mr Jarvis said that as well as improving health, helping people to stop smoking could rescue families out of poverty.

He said: “Stop smoking services are proven to be the most effective way to quit smoking and these services need continued investment.

“In Barnsley, where smoking rates are four per cent above the national average and 32 per cent of households with a smoker fall below the poverty line, we need to make sure that every person who wants to give up smoking can access the support they need.”
