HOODED men wielding hammers have robbed a local supermarket - prompting a manhunt.

Police are asking for information about the incident which happened at the Co-op on Rotherham Road, Great Houghton at 6.20pm on Monday (February 8.)

Two men had entered the store and threatened staff with what is believed to be a claw hammer. Both men had their faces covered and were wearing hoodies with the hoods up.

They fled the scene on foot with cigarettes and a quantity of cash.

One man is described as around 6ft tall, of a medium build and was wearing a blue/grey coloured hoody, black gloves. He also had a black scarf covering his face.The other man is described as around 6ft 3ins tall, of a slim build and was wearing a green hoody, black gloves and had a dark coloured mask over his face.
