A CHANGE in the eligibility criteria that allows people to get grants for central heating systems will mean scores more residents can take advantage of the scheme.

Barnsley Council Warm Homes Campaign offers help to those on low incomes and the central heating fund can provide free central heating systems to homes which aren’t currently using gas, but are accessible to the network, or homes which do not use gas as the main fuel type.

To be eligible for the central heating fund households must now have an income of less than £20,000 – an increase of almost £5,000 from the previous criteria figure.

The scheme is open to anyone who owns or privately rents their home.

It is estimated that nearly 1,000 households across the borough do not currently have central heating installed.

An information drop in session will be taking place at the Better Barnsley shop, Cheapside, on Friday 26 February between 10am and 1pm.
