A MAN who was out for a night with his wife has been assaulted in an unprovoked attack in a local pub. 

Officers are investigating after a 55-year-old - who was out at the Miner's Rest on Palm Street with friends on Friday January 15 - was left with a dislocated finger, cuts and bruises.

A 52-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The landlady of the Miners Rest said: “We do not condone this type of behaviour and we are working with police to help identify those responsible.”
