ALL 28 jobs at a Barnsley factory are to go when it closes in March.

Moorland Plastics has provided jobs for disabled people in Barnsley for 50 years but Barnsley Council says it can no longer afford to subsidise it.

Work has been done to restructure and streamline the business to try and make it viable but while the firm ‘significantly increased’ its income, it still fell short of balancing its budget relying on the council to provide the financial shortfall.

Coun Roy Miller said: “Like any employer, it is essential Barnsley Council manages its operations in a businesslike manner which is why, regrettably, we have to decommission Moorland Plastics.”
