HEARTLESS vandals have destroyed a Christmas tree at Hoyland's community garden.
Owd Martha's Yard is a free garden for all the community to enjoy and is run by volunteers.
The Christmas tree and fairy lights - which had been up less than a week - were all destroyed after vandals sawed down the tree and stamped on the lights.
In a furious Facebook post, one of the organisers Alison Richardson said: "We had the tree given for ALL to enjoy. The good people of Hoyand have given us the money for the ights so you've robbed them.
"Please someone explain to me why they should want to do such a wicked thing."
It was the first ever Christmas tree in Owd Martha's and locals had been invited to add their own baubles in memory of their loved ones.There will be a lantern parade in the garden on Wednesday from 4 pm to 6pm.
