TAXI drivers have revealed they are starting to install CCTV in their cabs amid fears they could be attacked.

Barnsley Council had been considering making CCTV compulsary in all cabs, but drivers have already started installing them to protect themselves.

CCTV in the town’s taxis would add an extra layer of protection for both drivers and passengers, the chairman of the licensing board has said.

A council spokesman said: "A lot of accusations could be made against a driver, totally unfounded, and with CCTV it could be proven to be true or false.”
