HUNDREDS of homes across Barnsley are standing empty, according to new research.
Statistics show there are aorund 1,200 long-term empty homes across the borough, most in private ownership.
But the council says action is being taken to bring them back into use - Berneslai Homes (which manages the council's housing stock) has a scheme to buy properties, refurbish them and add rents them out.
Meanwhile grant assistance can be to property owners to encourage long term empty properties to be brought back into use.
