POLICE have issued a statement after rumours circulated on social media about a supposed terror threat for South Yorkshire.
Posts started to fly on Facebook about a rumoured terror threat on Boxing Day and on Black Friday (November 27).
A spokesman said: "This type of message has circulated on social media in previous years on the run up to Christmas.
"We have no specific Intelligence to suggest there is any threat on Boxing Day or on Black Friday, and businesses should provide their own security if they feel it’s necessary."
People are asked to remain vigilant, and to report anything that could be terrorist-related to specialist officers via the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321.
