A MAJOR police operation is running across Barnsley aiming to crackdown on foreign criminals.
The international policing operation, called Trivium 5, is aimed at disrupting criminal activity by denying travelling, foreign criminals use of the roads.
The Roads Policing Unit are operating from now until Saturday doing road checks, utilising the ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) systems and other intelligence led activity, to catch those using the roads network throughout the county who are involved in a variety of crime, including human trafficking, slavery, theft and drugs.
Roads Policing Chief Inspector Glen Suttenwood said: ““I want to make it very clear that this operation is about targeting criminals, not the communities they are from.
“These offenders are intent on blighting the lives of those living, working and visiting our communities, and we are determined to tackle the criminality they are involved in.“
