A HISTORIC pub is to be demolished after planners approved a proposal to use the site for housing.

Anthony Youel has been given permission to knock down The Monkey, at Hollin Moor Lane.

Mr Youel is an artist who has used the pub as a basis for his work in recent times, using the car parks to display art installations and sculptures.

Planners were told the pub was no longer viable as a business.
