MORE than 55 people have died or have been seriously injured in road accidents in Barnsley this year.

Data revealed that there have also been 521 less serious accidents reported - a reduction on last years figures of around 20 per cent. 

The statistics were released by the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership for  National Road Safety Week.

It held a roadshow across the borough offering advice relating to a host of road safety matters including walking, cycling, motorcycle riding, driving and public transport.
