BUILDING work has begun on Barnsley's new custody suite.
Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings and Chief Constable David Crompton helped dig the first foundations on the site for a new facility at Churchfields.
It will feature 20 cells and demolition work has been taking place since the old suite closed in September.
A temporary custody area for Barnsley prisoners is operating at Ecclesfield Police Station in Sheffield while the work takes place.
The new facility is due to be completed in Autumn 2016.
