POLICE have issued a safety warning after two deaths in as many days - both thought to be drug-related.

Barnsley officers found a 34-year-old woman at a house on Genn Lane on Wednesday and then on Mount Vernon Road found a 33-year-old man on Thursday. He was taken to hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Superintendent Shelley Hemsley said: “Whilst the cause of death has not yet been established, we do believe they were drugs related and we are conducting a number of enquiries in both cases to ascertain the circumstances.

“Drugs can have severe consequences and damaging effects and we want to encourage people who may be affected either by the use of drugs, both legal and illegal substances, or have concerns for a loved one who may be affected, to please seek help and advice from health professionals.”
