BARNSLEY police's public enquiry desk will move to Wombwell while building work takes place in the town centre.

The temporary front desk in Wombwell will have the same opening hours as Churchfield when staff move on Monday, October 12.

Chief Superintendent Tim Innes, LPU Commander for Barnsley, said: "The changes taking place at Churchfield are part of a £19m project to deliver new custody facilities for Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley.

"It’s well documented that the force needs to make considerable financial savings but we also need a workforce properly equipped to tackle crime and protect the public."

Barnsley’s enquiry desk will be closed this Sunday, 11 October, while the relocation takes place.
