A BARNSLEY scout group has been awarded £10,000 following a successful bid to the Big Lottery Fund.

18th Barnsley (Hoyland) Scout Group will use the money for essential repairs to their scout hall on Market Street in Hoyland.

The much-needed funds will help to repair the hall’s roof and brickwork, install emergency lighting and fire alarms and give the interior a refresh.

Scout Leader, Simon Lee, said: “Our scout hall is over 100 years old and is well used, so it’s great news that we have secured the £10,000 grant to make the much needed repairs.

"We’ll look to use local contractors and our beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers will all be involved in the project - it’s their hall after all."
