BARNSLEY Council is providing a £6,000 funding boost to help save the historic Grimethorpe Hall.

Grimethrope Hall was built around 1670 and is a Grade II* listed building. Nationally, only 5.5 per cent of buildings are listed are graded at II*.

Unfortunately, it is currently in a poor state and is featured on the National Buildings at Risk Register.

The funding will be used for survey work including roof, asbestos, structural and bat assessments.

This will help to inform a future plan for sustainability and what urgent work is required in the short term.

The contribution for the survey will help the council secure £25,000 from Historic England for further conservation work.
