MP Michael Dugher has demanded improvements to bus services and rail links in Barnsley as part of a public consultation.

Mr Dugher was contacted by parents in the borough who faced a summer of uncertainty over the future of the 411 bus that pupils use to travel to school.

He said: “It is vital that local residents are able to get around Barnsley on public transport and better links and reliable services are a massive part of this."

The Barnsley East MP has also called for increased and more punctual rails services to and from Elsecar station after commuters have complained that one train an hour is not enough.

The Have Your Say 2015 consultation on transport priorities is open to the public until October 4.
