BARNSLEY has topped this year’s Yorkshire in Bloom competition scooping a huge 16 awards.

Yorkshire in Bloom judges visited Barnsley earlier in the year where they assessed a number green spaces, squares and gardens.

Judges said: "The use of sustainable planting on numerous sites provided colour and form through out the town centre.

"The town hall gardens were to the usual high standard of colour and floral quality. It was good to see two traditionally planted carpet bedding displays depicting local anniversaries and staff retaining the skill to plant out such integrated designs.”
