A FREE dog microchipping event will take place in Birdwell next month.
The most recent event in Wombwell - hosted by Barnsley Council in partnership with the Dogs Trust - was a great success. It saw 53 dogs from all over the borough get microchipped.
Another similar microchipping session will take place at the Football Pavillion at Birdwell Recreation Ground off Rockingham Street on Monday, September 21.
The event starts at 11am and people are advised to arrive early. Dogs will be treated on a first come first served basis with the last dog seen at 3pm.
Every dog owner in England will have to microchip their animal from April 6 2016 under plans intended to cut a rise in strays. The microchips are coded with owners' details, and those who do not comply could face fines of up to £500.
