THE Barnsley community has rallied together to show their support for a woman who wrote an open letter on Facebook after being heckled while running.
Barnsley lass Lindsey Swift, 26, was on her morning run when a lorry driver slowed down and began singing a sarcastic rendition of Mika's Big Girl (You Are Beautiful).
Lindsey did not let this deter her and took to Facebook to write "an open letter to the idiot who thought it was OK to heckle with fat jokes."
She said: "Let me make one thing very clear, I am not ashamed of my body. It has never stopped me from doing anything I want. My fat body has done things that you, hanging out of the window of your babe-magnet white van could only ever dream of…
"...If my fat arse running (quite slowly I might add, I was bloody shattered) offends you and spoils your journey, try driving with your eyes closed, into a lamp post."
WABers showed their support to Lindsey by sending in messages.
John Preston described Lindsey as a "cool person". He said: "That is something amazing right there."
Cheryl Lodge Brown said: "Well said sweetheart. I love my size as well and swim every other day over a mile."
Jack Warner said: "Go you. It's not were you start but where you end up and as long as your happy who cares."
Gemma Louise suggested Lindsey should start a "running club to out number those scumbags."
Martin Exelby said: "Well done to Lindsey and her running. I hope the experience hasn't put her off or anyone who was thinking of running."
