CHARGES will be added for any passenger that wants to spend a penny in the transport interchange.
From May 2 South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) will be introducing coin operated turnstiles at the toilets which will cost 20p to enter. David Young, SYPTE director of customer experience, said: “It’s with reluctance we are introducing the charge, but, given pressures on funding, we feel we can’t maintain a high standard of service without charging to use the toilets. We introduced turnstiles at Rotherham Interchange last year. These have operated with few complaints from customers.” The turnstiles will accept 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 coins but no change will be given. SYPTE say it is to cover the ongoing cleaning and maintenance of the facilities and prevent vandalism, graffiti and damage.
