THREE men were arrested in Monk Bretton after the police helicopter mobilised officers to search for them when they pointed a laser at it.

The helicopter - SY99 - was doing routine patrols in the Monk Bretton/Locke Park area last night (Tueday) when someone shone a laser at it.

Lasers – when pointed towards helicopters – act like a camera flash when they hit the cockpit glass and create a blinding floodlight in front of the pilot.

Nearby police were mobilised to track down the culprits and three men were arrested when they were found to be in possession of drugs.

Police say they have not yet decided whether to also press charges for endangering an aircraft.

Locals came on our facebook wall at around 10pm last night, reporting that the helicopter circled Monk Bretton for around 20 minutes.
