A man wearing an orange high-visibility suit entered the Co-op supermarket on High Street at around 9.15pm on Saturday, July 18.

It is alleged that he threatened staff with a weapon, thought to resemble a small axe, demanding that they hand over a quantity of cash.

He is believed to have fled the scene in the direction of George Street carrying a holdall.

Police have issued a CCTV image of the suspect and are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

Temporary Detective Sergeant Andy Knowles said: “This was a scary attack in a shop that had members of the public present.
