A TEENAGE boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries this morning after being hit by a van.

Emergency services were called at around 8.20am to Pitt Street in Wombwell.

The road is used by children and parents travelling to Netherwood School.

WABer Sara Cutts said that three children have been knocked down on the stretch of road and is calling for something to be done.

She said: "Some sort of crossing is needed for the kids whether that be a school patrol person or a traffic light controlled crossing.

"Speed bumps or speed cameras would make a huge difference to the safety of this road."

The teenage boy's mother told WAB he is doing well following the incident.
