A MOTORBIKE rider and their passenger are in hospital with serious injuries after an accident yesterday.

The collision happened at around 1pm on April 24, on Doncaster Road next to the Staithes public house.

Police say a blue Ford Ka was apparently turning right from Doncaster Road into Old Doncaster Road when it was in collision with a black Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorbike, travelling the opposite way along Doncaster Road.

The rider, a 22-year-old man from Mexborough, suffered serious lower back and internal injuries. He is currently detained in Rotherham District General Hospital.

His pillion passenger, 20, sustained serious multiple fractures to her back. She is detained in Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicle just before the impact.
