VOLUNTEERS have given over 4,500 hours to local projects, as part of Barnsley's volunteering month.

Through out June people were encouraged to get involved in community activities to help make Barnsley a great place to live and work.

Volunteers took part in flowerbed planting, litter picking, allotment groups, theatre assistance, coffee mornings and lots more.

A whopping 947 people gave up their spare time to get involved with 96 events. The total time given as part of the month added up to 4,869 hours.

Coun Jenny Platts said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone that was involved in volunteering month. Your time, support, energy and commitment has helped to achieve some fantastic results."
