BARNSLEY Hospice is holding an open day today to encourage more ladies to sign up for the annual midnight walk event.

It hopes that around 1,400 women will sign up for the annual fund-raising walk which starts at midnight on June 23.

The open day will run from 2pm - 7pm and volunteers will be on hand selling flower garlands, coconut bra's, grass skirts plus t-shirts to help people get in the spirit of the Hawaiian theme.

Last year’s walk raised £100,000 for the hospice, which has to find £1.9m on top of its NHS grant of £1.6m every year.

There will be two routes, one of five miles and one of ten, both starting at Grange Lane at Barnsley.
