A BARNSLEY student has won a year's free bus travel after entering an online competition with Stagecoach Yorkshire.

Charlotte Evans, 16, of Worsbrough, will be able to use the bus pass to travel to Barnsley College where she will be studying her A levels from September.

The giveaway was part of a week of eco-themed events hosted by Stagecoach Yorkshire as part of its annual country wide Green Week.

There was also a poster competition for primary school students to take part in by highlighting eco-friendly messages about buses.

The winning student from St Helen’s Primary Academy in Monk Bretton will have their poster displayed on buses through out the summer.

Paul Lynch, managing director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: "Green Week gives a real focus for how we can all work together to protect our planet for future generations. We need to make changes not just for one day or one week, but for the long-term."
