A PLAN to build 145 houses in Goldthorpe has been given the go-ahead by the council.

Steve Gamble was given permission for the development on land off Barnburgh Lane which will feature 36 two-bedroomed houses, 78 three-bedroomed and 31 four bed-roomed. It will include 213 parking spaces and 64 garages.

Five residents objected to the plan, claiming that too many new houses had been built in the area which had resulted in the loss of green spaces. They also were worried that the new build would overlook their own homes and that the development may affect archaeological remains in the area.

The developers have agreed to fund £100,000 to pay for new changing facilities at Goldthorpe Recreation Ground as part of the proposal.

Members on the council's Planning Regulatory Board agreed the scheme at their last meeting.

It is expected 3000 new homes will be built up to 2026 in the Dearne area.
