ONE of the biggest events in Barnsley’s schools’ musical calendar takes place this week.

More than 1,500 young musicians from 34 schools will perform in the Key Stage 2 Music Festival organised by Barnsley Music Service.

The festival takes place at Building 21 in Elsecar Heritage Centre on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with performances at 10.30am and 1.30pm.

It is open to the public and tickets priced at £2.50 will be available on the door.

John Ingman, service development officer for Barnsley Music Service, said: “All performers have been learning to play their instruments or singing as a whole class since last September through projects delivered by teachers from Barnsley Music Service and other partners from Barnsley Music Education Hub."
