A DARTON man was handed 100 hours of community service for the possession and supply of fake cycling clothing and sunglasses.

Lee Thortersen used his website, Facebook and Ebay pages to sell the goods after sourcing them from China. These included many popular cycling brands such as Castelli, Specialized, Sky Rapha, Trek and Giant.

Following a tip off from trade mark holders, a warrant was executed at Thortersen’s home. This resulted in the seizure of over 200 suspected counterfeit items which if genuine had a retail value of over £12,000.

Thortersen pleaded guilty to seven offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994 at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on June 11.

As well as the community service, he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £60 and £450 prosecution costs.
