BARNSLEY Council issued the most fines in the last year to people who failed to pick up their dog's poo.

The BBC asked the 348 authorities in England and Wales how many fines they have issued to owners who failed to clean up dog mess and 302 responded.

Out of these, 103 did not issue any fixed penalty notices in 2014/15. Barnsley Council had issued the most with a total of 187.

However, the number of people fined for failing to pick up their dog's poo fell by almost 20 per cent in England and Wales.

In the last year, 2,868 fixed penalty notices were issued in England and Wales. This is down from 3,521 in the previous 12 months.
