THE car park on Old Mill Lane near Barnsley College has been closed.

Wayne Hadfield had been using the land between two railway bridges as a 250-space car park for ten months when the council told him he would have to apply for retrospective planning permission.

Wayne made the application in December last year but it was turned down on safety grounds.

He fought the decision by keeping the car park open until last week when the council threatened him with prosecution unless he closed it.

A sign outside the car park says: "Sorry but your local council has shut us down so they can charge you double."
